Indian women’s cricket vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has finally spoken publicly for the first time since the cancellation of her wedding with music composer Palash Muchhal. The celebrated cricketer, known for her calm demeanour both on and off the field, had been at the centre of intense social media speculation in recent weeks after the wedding was unexpectedly called off. While neither family disclosed the specific reason behind the decision, both requested privacy as rumours continued to escalate online.
Mandhana, who has always maintained a dignified silence on her personal life, chose the Amazon Sambhav Summit to open up about her mindset during challenging times. Without directly discussing the controversy, she shared powerful insights into how she deals with personal setbacks and why cricket remains the most important part of her life.
Cricket Is My Biggest Strength, Says Smriti Mandhana
Speaking at the event, Smriti Mandhana said that no matter what unfolds in her personal life, cricket continues to be her deepest passion and the driving force of her identity.
She stated, “Whatever happens in my personal life, cricket is my biggest strength and my true love.”
Mandhana explained that she has always tried to stay grounded and maintain a simple outlook. She avoids overthinking and believes that focusing on the game gives her the ability to rise above difficulties.
She added that the hard work players put in away from the spotlight matters far more than what the public sees on the field.
“I Don’t Complicate Life by Overthinking”
During her address, Smriti Mandhana described herself as a straightforward person who does not let unnecessary thoughts complicate her life.
She said:
“I have always been a very simple person. I don’t make my life difficult by overthinking. One thing I strongly believe in is that if you work hard behind the scenes, the results on the field will follow. People see what happens on match day, but I judge myself and my team by the effort we put in behind the curtain.”
Mandhana emphasized that consistent hard work gives her confidence irrespective of whether she is going through a good phase or a challenging one.
“Whether I’m feeling good or bad, I believe that if I’ve worked hard, the confidence stays with me. Hard work never leaves you.”
“The Indian Jersey Is My Greatest Motivation”
In one of the most heartfelt moments of her speech, Smriti Mandhana said that nothing gives her more joy than playing cricket for India.
She revealed that wearing the Indian jersey has been her biggest motivation since childhood.
“There is nothing I love more than cricket. Wearing the Indian jersey is my biggest inspiration. Since childhood, I have dreamed of being called a ‘World Champion’.”
Her words reflected her deep emotional connection with the game, especially at a time when she is navigating personal challenges.
Mandhana On On-Field Disagreements: “These Are Discussions, Not Conflicts”
The cricketer also addressed the topic of disagreements between players during matches and clarified that such moments should not be misunderstood.
She explained that every player wants to contribute to the country’s victory, and naturally, different views arise.
“I don’t see on-field differences as problems. Everyone wants to win for India. Players may have different opinions on how to achieve that, but those are discussions, not fights. If there are no discussions, it means we lack the passion to win.”
Why Were the Wedding Plans Cancelled?
Smriti Mandhana and Palash Muchhal were scheduled to marry on 23 November 2025. However, on the same day, Mandhana’s father reportedly suffered a heart attack, which led to the postponement of the ceremony.
Shortly afterward, leaked screenshots of Palash Muchhal’s alleged flirty chats went viral on social media, sparking controversy and leading to cheating accusations against him. Though neither Mandhana nor Palash confirmed these rumours, the online chatter grew rapidly.
Official Announcement of the Wedding Cancellation
On 7 December 2025, both Smriti Mandhana and Palash Muchhal posted identical statements on Instagram, announcing that their wedding had been cancelled. They requested fans and the media to respect their privacy during a difficult period.
Despite widespread speculation, the couple has not revealed the exact reason behind their final decision. Families from both sides have also chosen to maintain silence.
Mandhana’s Message to Fans: Focus on Cricket, Respect Our Privacy
After the official cancellation, Smriti Mandhana posted a brief Instagram story urging people to avoid spreading rumours.
She wrote that respecting the privacy of both families was extremely important during this emotional time.
