The ongoing Imran Khan case has taken a new turn after the former Pakistani prime minister’s ex-wife, Jemima Goldsmith, publicly appealed to Elon Musk, claiming that her posts about Khan’s condition are being deliberately suppressed on X (formerly Twitter). The family’s growing anxiety over Khan’s deteriorating health and prolonged isolation has pushed them to seek global attention, with Jemima accusing authorities of denying even basic human rights to the former leader.
Jemima Goldsmith Accuses X of Limiting Her Reach
In a post shared on Friday, Jemima Goldsmith alleged that her messages about Imran Khan’s treatment in prison are not reaching users on X, the very platform she is depending on to raise global awareness. She directly tagged Elon Musk, explaining that her account’s visibility appears to have been restricted without any explanation.
According to Jemima, posts concerning the Imran Khan case-especially updates about his confinement, health, and legal battle-are “barely reaching anyone,” making it nearly impossible for her to communicate the seriousness of the situation to the world. She argued that reducing the reach of such posts contradicts Musk’s proclaimed commitment to free speech.
“Free speech means allowing people to be heard-not limiting their voices so no one can listen,” she wrote, urging Musk to intervene and restore full visibility to her account.
Claims of Unlawful Solitary Confinement
Jemima also highlighted the severe conditions under which Imran Khan has allegedly been kept. She asserted that Khan has been held in isolation for 22 months under circumstances she described as illegal. Her most emotional charge was that their two sons have been denied all access to their father during this period.
She stressed that X has become the only platform where she can openly speak about Khan’s condition. According to her, Imran Khan is being treated as a political prisoner stripped of his basic human rights-a central narrative in the Imran Khan case that continues to draw international attention.
Family Voices Intensify Amid Lack of Transparency
This is not the first time the family has raised concerns. Jemima previously claimed that Pakistani authorities prevented her sons from even speaking to their father. She said that officials warned that if the children traveled to Pakistan, they too could face arrest, a possibility she described as both “shocking” and “cruel.”
Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, echoed these concerns earlier this week while speaking outside the prison where he is being held. She revealed that for the past eight months, family members have been visiting the jail every Tuesday-yet they are consistently denied permission to meet him.
According to Aleema, the conditions amount to deliberate isolation, and she called for an immediate end to what she described as unjust treatment. She stated that despite repeated requests, the family has not been given clear information regarding Khan’s health, safety, or legal status.
“We don’t know what state he is in. We don’t know how he is being treated. We are kept completely in the dark,” she said, intensifying the concerns surrounding the Imran Khan case.
UN Experts Previously Flagged Violations
International bodies have also raised concerns. In July last year, a panel of United Nations experts declared that Imran Khan’s arrest and detention were in violation of international law. They stated that the circumstances of the Imran Khan case suggested that he was being held arbitrarily, in part to prevent him from participating in elections.
The UN panel urged Pakistan to release him and ensure fair legal proceedings, but their recommendations have yet to be implemented. Since then, calls for transparency and due process have only grown louder, especially as his supporters argue that Khan is being targeted for political reasons.
Global Spotlight Sharpens on X and Free Speech Debate
Jemima Goldsmith’s appeal to Elon Musk has not only drawn attention to Imran Khan’s imprisonment but also reignited the global debate on free speech under Musk’s ownership of X. Critics argue that if posts highlighting human rights concerns are being restricted, it raises serious questions about the platform’s neutrality and reliability.
For many observers, the Imran Khan case has become more than a legal or political issue-it is now intertwined with global conversations about censorship, human rights, and the responsibility of social media platforms in politically sensitive cases.

A Family’s Plea for Visibility
As the controversy intensifies, Khan’s family continues to hope that international awareness will pressure authorities to allow transparent communication, humane treatment, and fair legal proceedings.
For now, Jemima’s public message to Elon Musk stands as a plea not just for visibility, but for justice in a case that continues to grip Pakistan and draw the world’s attention.
